Gush Katif Religious Artifacts Left to Rot

Another sign of the government’s lack of concern for the belongings of the Jews of Gush Katif is highlighted in a report published today on Ynet. When the area’s synagogues were cleared out during the expulsion, various religious articles left behind were placed in storage. These items have not been looked after properly. “Some of the articles were completely ruined, cast on the floor, and covered in mold and dust,” the article states.

Recently, the government has threatened to dump these items if they are not claimed, even though permament synagogues have not yet been built for the residents of Gush Katif, and there is nowhere to store them. In response, lawyer Gilad Corinaldi has written a strong letter to Ehud Olmert summing up the feelings of the former residents of Gush Katif regarding this most recent example of government neglect.
