Decision to Reject Gush Katif Novel A “Mistake”

When Shifra Shomron’s novel, Grains of Sand, which mirrors her experiences as a teenager during the Disengagement, was first suggested for the syllabus for English matriculation exams taken at Israeli schools, it was rejected out of hand. It did not even make it to the committee that decides which literary works should be studied. However, in response to a query by The Jerusalem Post, the Education Ministry admits that their hasty decision was a mistake.
