The settlement of Gush Katif was a paradise comparatively to the harsh surrounding homes of many Palestinian militants who sought not just the settlements destruction, but the destruction of the entire Jewish State. A democracy, surrounded by theocracies and autocracies.

On my last visit to Israel (I'm a 19 year old male from Sydney, Australia) I had the opportunity to visit Ma'ale Adumim (a possible future home for myself?). I felt at home there, safe and as if I were in Israel proper.

I don't see why the settlements should have to go, if Gush Katif was destroyed, and peace was not reached, how will disengagement from the West Bank be any different?

Long Live the Israeli Settlements and the Glorious State of Israel!
